What is "Artistic Photojournalism"?

One will not find a definition of “Artistic Photojournalism” in dictionaries or textbooks. We came up with the term as it most closely describes our photographic style.

Photojournalism or documentary photography is an objective depiction of events to convey the truth as is happens.

“Artistic” on the other hand, does not necessarily mean objective. Art implies creativity. Does it make the term “Artistic photojournalism” a contradiction? In a way . . . While a photojournalist unobtrusively creates a pictorial narrative, an artist renders an aesthetic presentation and reveals originality of the story – the story of your wedding day.

The most invaluable moments of the day are captured through dynamic anticipation and preserved for lifelong memories. The genuine sentiments are insightfully expressed in the images to bring up the emotions of the day for years to come. These visual mementos are weaved into a story of love and beginning.

Engagement Session

The times of excitement, anticipation, planning and looking forward to a new chapter of your life together – marriage and building a family. What can be more exhilarating? Preserve the emotions into wonderful memories to come!
Photography style during engagement session is different from that of the wedding day itself. During the engagement photo-shoot, there is more communication with your photographer then during the wedding day. Some posing may take place. During the engagement session you also have an opportunity to experience what it is like to be in the camera presence for a prolonged period of time. My goal is to help you feel very comfortable in front of the camera and give you an opportunity to rehearse before the wedding.

  • Where to go?

Engagement photo session takes place before the wedding day at a location of your choice. Outdoors is a great place for it. Mountain forest, park, river, lake are often great choices when the weather permits. A place where you met for the first time or became engaged is often a perfect option.

  • When?

Some couples prefer to have engagement session during the month or their engagement day to preserve that moment in their memories. For example, if you were engaged in December of last year and your wedding is not until May of next year, you may chose to get together with your photographer in December to commemorate the time.

Some couples, on the other hand, like to have engagement session a few weeks before the wedding day.

The photo-shoot usually lasts one-to-two hours, and it is fun!

  • What to wear?

Are you going to a formal location such as an upscale restaurant where you were engaged or to a mountain park with a more casual mood? Location and the level of desired comfort have a great influence on the clothing you wear. Keep in mind that this event is not just "picture-taking," it is a professional photo-session. Make the most of this opportunity.

Choose a color theme for the occasion. Solid colors are the best. They do not distract attention from your expressions like patterns may do.

Coordinate your colors, not just top and bottom, but make sure that both of you wear matching colors. Matching does not necessarily mean the same color. Colors may be the same or contrasting.

Neutral colors like beige, gray, white or black match very easily and do not distract attention from your faces.

Warm colors, especially red, give a person appearance of being closer and heavier. Dark colors tend to be more slandering and are very flattering for women.

Prepare your clothing in advance and be sure to coordinate your shoes with your clothing.

Simple hairstyle, not excessive jewelry, and natural makeup are the best.

  • What to bring?

Pets are welcome! Just make sure that the place of the engagement session allows pets.

Do you have a hobby? Bring it with you. If you are tennis players - bring your rackets. Are you a musician? - Bring your flute or violin. Anything that reflects your personalities or interests will add and enrich your session. Most importantly, bring your love and have fun!
